Watch Assembly in Shiga: Make a Watch That Is Uniquely Yours
“I would love to assemble my own watch!” “What does a watch look like inside?”
Have you ever wondered about that?
At JIOS in Ishiyama, Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, a city closely connected with the beginning of Japan’s history of timekeeping, you can enjoy assembling a watch yourself.
You do not need to know much about watches, and there is no need to worry if you are not good with your hands!
With support from a watch professional, you choose your own parts and put them together one by one.
The finished watch is uniquely yours.
There is a special attachment that comes from assembling it yourself.

1. What Is the JIOS Watch Assembly Experience?
One day, you might forget a watch you bought, or perhaps even one you received as a gift…
But you will not forget the experience of assembling a watch yourself!
In our assembly experience, you choose the combination you like from the watches we have available and create your own watch.
More than simply buying a watch,
it is about enjoying the time you spend bringing it to completion.
That is our watch assembly experience at JIOS.

2. What Can You Choose?
The three JIOS models currently available for the assembly experience are SEIRAN」「AWAZU」「OMI. Choose your favorite model and then select its:
Case
Dial
Hand colors, individually for the minute, hour, and second hands
Strap or bracelet
You can combine these to create an original watch that is uniquely yours. Please confirm available models and parts when booking. GMT models are not available for the assembly experience.
“What combination would you choose?”

3. Can You Take Part Without Knowing About Watches?
Assembling a watch might sound difficult at first.
But there is no need to worry.
Even if you have no knowledge of watches, our staff, who are watch professionals, will carefully explain each step. Please contact us before booking to discuss language support.
If any of the small, delicate tasks are particularly difficult, we can help you work through them.
You can enjoy the experience even if you have never taken a watch apart before.

6. From Kyoto or Osaka to Shiga
JIOS is based in Ishiyama, in the city of Otsu, Shiga Prefecture.
It is easy to reach from Kyoto, and you can combine watch assembly with a visit to Ishiyama, Otsu, or the Lake Biwa area. (Depending on the service, the train journey from Kyoto Station to Ishiyama Station takes approximately 15 minutes; from Osaka Station, a Special Rapid train takes approximately 43 minutes.)
“I would like to do a little more than visit Kyoto.” “I would like to explore at a relaxed pace.”
If that sounds like you, we would love to recommend this way of spending the day.
Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, is also known for its place at the beginning of Japan’s history of timekeeping. Why not assemble your own watch in this historic setting, then visit Omi Jingu Shrine to explore that early history for yourself? We warmly recommend a tour of time and watches around Otsu and Shiga!
Please ask our staff for recommendations for places to visit and eat!

Do more than buy a watch: assemble it yourself.
Whenever you look at the finished watch, you can remember the day you made it.
A watch that is uniquely yours, assembled with your own hands.
We would love you to try our watch assembly experience at JIOS.
The memory of assembling it yourself can last a lifetime!
